Sanford, FL – November 9, 2016 – More than 500 congregation and community members joined together on Sunday, October 30 to give worship and celebrate the new Family Life Center and gymnasium at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and School.  The project began in 2015 with the launch of St. Luke’s capital campaign – Equipping the Saints – raising more than $4 million towards the campus expansion and providing additional space for the youth, educational programs, and recreation.

The new facilities consist of a 9,630 square-foot fellowship hall that includes meeting rooms, a youth room, a café, and storage, as well as a 13,205 square-foot gymnasium with athletic floors, bleacher seating, a full size basketball court, two practice courts, two volleyball courts, restrooms and coaches offices. The project also included interior renovations to the existing Founders Hall and site work.

As construction manager for the ambitious project, Wharton-Smith was committed to keeping construction on schedule and to being good stewards of the campaign funds. “Wharton-Smith is honored to have been a part of a project that serves the St. Luke’s congregation, school and community,” said Russell Garrison, Senior Project Manager for Wharton-Smith. “We are a company that believes in making a positive difference in the lives of others and we take great pride in being able to contribute to the mission of St. Luke’s.”

The celebration included a rite of dedication and ribbon cutting, followed by lunch and walking tours of the new facilities.
