Sanford, FL – March 22, 2018 – After ten months of construction, the new USSSA Space Coast Complex and national headquarters for the United States Specialty Sports Association is open and hosting teams for the 2018 year!

Wharton-Smith team members commemorated the completion of the project last week with an unofficial ribbon-cutting and kickball tournament on one of the complex’s 15 turf fields. Forty-five employees made the trip to Viera to play, cheer and tour the new complex. The project’s Senior Project Manager Ray Bowen thanked everyone for coming to see the new complex adding, “The venue has been a huge success for USSSA, Brevard County, and the fan base.”

Encompassing 1.3 million square feet of turf on 85 acres, the complex boasts three championship stadiums including the signature 8,100-seat all turf stadium with 11 suites, 15 all turf fields, three state-of-the-art video boards, and two new concession buildings. Each field features dugout structures, backstops, netting, bull pens, score boards, seating, shade structures, and the latest LED lighting technology.

Amateur tournament sports is one of the largest and fastest growing market segments today. The complex has booked 60+ events throughout 2018 and is home to the USSSA’s professional softball franchise, the USSSA Florida Pride. The complex is expected to attract over 100,000 athletes and spectators and with USSSA’s guaranteed room nights will generate an estimated $500,000 a year in additional tourist tax revenue for the Space Coast.

The new complex was funded by revenue generated by the Brevard County Tourist Development Tax with support from USSSA. Wharton-Smith served as construction manager for the $12.6 million project.
