Windermere, FL – On Friday, October 19, Wharton-Smith’s Commercial Division celebrated the great work being done by local subcontractors and team members on the Orange County Public Schools Site 37 Relief Middle School located in the growing community of Windermere, Florida. The traditional topping out event marks a significant milestone in the completion of the project.

More than 150 subcontractors along with team members from Harvard Jolly Architects and Orange County Public Schools gathered for a BBQ lunch catered by Bubbalou’s BBQ. Senior Superintendent Paul Radenhausen thanked everyone for the great work being done and successfully overcoming the three month environmental delay, “we didn’t have complete control of the site until the middle of June. The amount of work we have done in four months is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every one of you.”

Custom designed t-shirts were handed out and over 125 prizes totaling $3,500 were raffled off to subcontractors on the job. Giveaways such as gift cards, small tools, and an HDTV were generously donated by subcontractors and vendors.

The $30.3 million middle school consists of four new multi-story buildings totaling approximately 169,000 s.f. and will also include outdoor physical education facilities. The new campus is being built on a 25.56-acre greenfield site and will have a maximum capacity of 1,213 students.

Wharton-Smith is providing construction management services on the project. Construction is on schedule and expected to be complete in the summer of 2019.
