AJ Brown joined Wharton-Smith in 2019 as a Project Manager for the company’s first commercial project in the Panhandle. He has 13 years of experience in commercial construction and a proven record of success on many large, high-profile projects. AJ’s responsibilities are all-encompassing. He oversees and directs all personnel, projects, and pursuits in Northwest Florida. AJ engages with clients, subcontractors, designers, industry leaders, local committees, and organizations. He offers operational leadership for the division from pre-construction through close-out. He ensures the teams properly serve their clients and consistently integrate safety, quality, budget, and schedule controls with the excellence needed to be the Construction Group of Choice. Since graduating from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, AJ has worked through the ranks for commercial General Contractors across the Midwest and Southeast. Before joining Wharton-Smith, he worked for two contractors, Q & Company, LLC and Killian Construction, in Springfield, MO. AJ then worked for Hensel Phelps on large projects in Pensacola, Orlando, and Nashville – ultimately finding his way back to where he and his family considered home: The Florida Panhandle. AJ is passionate about being an active member of the Northwest Florida community. He serves on the industry advisory committee for the UWF Construction Management program and is a board member of Associated Builders and Contractors of North Florida. He’s played an instrumental role in Wharton-Smith’s involvement in local philanthropic support of Onbikes Pensacola, Backpack Project USA, Escambia County Public Schools Foundation, several local youth sports teams, and others. AJ lives in Pensacola, Florida, with his wife, son, and three spoiled pups. When he’s not at work, AJ enjoys spending time with family, boating, camping, and hitting the Jeep trails.
