On April 16, the Largo community, city officials, Wharton-Smith, Wannemacher Jensen Architects, Largo Fire Rescue, and Pinellas County leadership broke ground on the new Largo Fire Station 39. See photos.
Replacing the existing Station 39, built in 1980, the new 10,000 SF fire station will include enhanced living corridors to meet current standards, better accommodate the firefighter’s needs, and incorporate several sustainability features such as solar panels and EV charging. It will provide individual dorms for eight firefighters, three large apparatus bays, a day room, a fitness center, and much-needed storage.
“Fire Station 39 symbolizes resilience, preparedness, and unwavering dedication to public safety,” said Fire Chief Chad Pittman. “Today is an exciting day for Largo Fire Rescue, and I very much appreciate all of your time joining us at this celebration.”
“We’re looking forward to pushing forward with Wharton-Smith, and it’s been great to have them as a partner,” said Wannemacher Jensen Architects Studio Director Jeff McDowell.
“What a beautiful day to celebrate the start of an exciting and important project,” said Project Executive Jeff Horton. “This building, when completed, will stand to protect the citizens of the City of Largo for decades to come. It will truly be a state-of-the-art facility to house and support local first responders in their mission to keep the community safe.”
The project is expected to be completed in April 2025
