In the first full week of May 2024, around 300 companies across the United States participated in Construction Safety Week, an initiative started in 2014 to inspire everyone in the industry to be safety leaders. As a participant, Wharton-Smith’s Human Resources and Safety Department teamed up to celebrate Safety Week and utilize this year’s theme of “Value Every Voice” to tie in Mental Health Awareness Month throughout May.
Throughout the week, messages from Corporate Safety Director Travis Chaput, jobsite visits, poster and sticker distribution, social media posts, and more reinforced Wharton-Smith’s commitment to safety and the empowerment of workers to use their voices and trust they are being listened to.
“This year, Safety Week is focused on how we value every voice,” said Travis. “It’s critical that we listen and respond to everyone on our team.”
On Tuesday, May 7, sponsors Milwaukee Tool, accompanied by Industrial Safety Products, MSA, East Coast Contractor Supply, and Power Bolt & Tool, celebrated Safety Week by speaking about the importance of safety, catering lunch to workers at the DeLand Wiley M. Nash Water Reclamation Facility expansion project, and donating thousands of dollars worth of raffle prizes. See photos and video.
Mental Health Awareness is not just a month-long initiative. If you or someone you know is struggling, resources can be found here.
