On June 13, Wharton-Smith celebrated the topping out for the School District of Osceola County’s Transportation East Facility project with partners and subcontractors. Topping out ceremonies, which date back to the ancient Scandinavians, symbolize the completion of a construction project’s structural phase. See photos.
Guests at the event received Wharton-Smith t-shirts and take-home swag and entered into a raffle that featured thousands of dollars worth of gift cards, speakers, coolers, and more. All attendees were treated to a delicious catered lunch from Bubbalou’s Bodacious BBQ.
The project itself includes the construction of an administration building, school bus fleet maintenance building, fueling station, bush wash, restroom pavilion, and associated parking areas, which will allow for 200 bus parking spaces and 350 car parking spaces.
Speaking at the event, Senior Project Manager Randall Ellington said, “I want to thank all our partners, subcontractors, staff, and everyone else involved for their hard work, commitment to quality, commitment to safety, and your patience. We’ve still got a long way to go, but I just want to thank you again for your good work so far and look forward to turning over a beautiful and much-needed facility to the school district transportation team.”
