Wharton-Smith provided design-bid-build services for the construction of a new pump station including four vertical turbine pumps driven by VFDs, raw water intake structure with new intake screen air backwash system, and a masonry block electrical building. The project included 750 LF of 42-inch steel micro-tunneling containing the new 24-inch intake piping. Additional scope of work consists of erosion and sedimentation control, clearing and grubbing, yard piping and valves, new asphalt driveway, and site work. The project required a 45-foot deep excavation on the upper 1/3-acre sloped project site within the wetlands and along a busy highway. Our project team negotiated an agreement with the adjacent property owner to allow access, parking, and storage. This solution made for safer working conditions and better ability to excavate the area.
