On January 24, Wharton-Smith joined with its subcontractors and partners to celebrate the topping out of Edith I. Starke Elementary School. See photos.

Attendees enjoyed receiving a new Wharton-Smith high-vis t-shirt along with a delicious catered lunch provided by Brian’s Bar-B-Q. Hundreds of dollars worth of tools and gift cards were also raffled off at the event, thanks to the generosity of our community leaders, subcontractors, and partners.

The school’s construction will involve demolishing the existing campus and building an additional approximately 50,000 SF of new construction. The new school will accommodate up to 650 student stations, have new parking and pick-up/drop-off loops, and have a new bus loop, all with upgraded security.

“We are excited to partner with Volusia County Schools in delivering a state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a proud home for students, families, and faculty at Edith I. Starke Elementary School for generations to come,” said Project Executive Rachel Bouffard. “Despite facing several challenges throughout the project, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to ensure its success. This achievement is the result of exceptional teamwork and commitment, and we couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve accomplished together.”

The school is scheduled for completion in Summer 2025, with a second phase of demolition and restoration of the existing campus to follow.
