Billy Matthesen, who has over twenty years of experience in the construction industry, was named the Executive Vice President of Operations – Commercial in July 2025. In this role, Billy will lead the operations of all Commercial Business Units, focusing on strategic direction, team development, and overall performance to ensure the highest quality outcomes for clients and communities.
Billy brings a deep understanding of project leadership and team building. Prior to joining Wharton-Smith, he spent his career at PCL, advancing from Field Engineer to Superintendent, then moving into roles as Project Manager and Construction Manager, before ultimately leading a division in the Orlando market.
He is a strong believer in treating others as he wishes to be treated, striving to always be genuine, fair, and true to his word. His passion lies in developing and supporting staff to meet both their individual potential and business goals. He also supports causes such as Building Homes for Heroes and Habitat for Humanity.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from the University of Florida and is a LEED Accredited Professional with a specialty in Building Design + Construction (LEED AP BD+C).
A resident of Winter Garden, Florida, he lives with his wife, Bernadette, their three daughters, Leah, Alexis, and Emily, and their three dogs: Cali, Rosie, and Maximus. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, attending race events, and spending time with his family.
