Roberto (Bert) Fonseca joined Wharton-Smith Inc. as a Project Executive in 2020. As Area Manager for Commercial – Central Florida, Bert is responsible for providing strategic leadership for the company by working with the Project Executives and collaborating with executive management team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies. He is also charged with advancing employee engagement and overseeing all operations and business activities in Central Florida to ensure they produce the desired results consistent with Wharton-Smith’s overall strategy and mission. Bert is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management and Florida International University with a Master of Science in Construction Management. Bert began his post-college career rising through the ranks from Field Engineer, Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, and Vice President of Operation before joining Wharton-Smith in 2020 as a Project Executive. In 2022, Bert was appointed as Area Manager for Commercial – Central Florida. He also holds General, Mechanical, and Plumbing Contractor licenses. Bert is the recipient of the Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Distinguished Vale La Pena! Service Award. He currently serves on the City of Sanford Planning and Zoning Commission, as a Board Member and Tressure on Access Charter School Board of Directors, and an Industry Advisor Board Member for Seminole State College Wharton-Smith School of Construction. Bert has been a resident of Sanford since 1976. He is married with two children. He and his family support OCA: A Special Place for Special Needs. Bert is also a wine enthusiast and a passionate cook, and he enjoys traveling with his family.
