Director of Operations
Mike Alexakis was named Director of Operations in July 2023, after serving as the Area Manager for the Central and North Florida Water Division, a position that was held since April 2022. Mike has been with Wharton-Smith since August 2006, when he started as an intern. He has more than 16 years of experience in engineering and construction and has had the pleasure of being involved with projects in the majority of our Water divisions including North Miami, Mississippi, Charlotte and Florida. Mike’s responsibilities include daily oversight for the performance of Central and North Florida Water Division. He is involved with projects from estimating and preconstruction services through operations and closeout. Mike works alongside his team to ensure that our teams exceed our clients’ expectations by performing with the highest quality, professionalism, and fairness. Mike is also part of the implementation and roll out of the project controls software (RedTeam) for the company and continues to serve in this capacity. Mike joined Wharton-Smith as a Project Engineer Intern in August 2006. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Civil Engineering in May 2008 and then started as a Project Engineer. He was promoted to Assistant Project Manager in 2010, Project Manager in 2011, Senior Project Manager in 2013, Project Executive in 2019, and Area Manager in 2022. Mike has a Designated Design-Build Professional Certification and holds the Alabama General Contractor License for the Company. Mike is passionate about the water industry and served as a vice chair and council chair for the FSAWWA contractors council from 2016-2021 where he collaborated with our clients, engineers, and suppliers to educate and better manage future infrastructure needs. Mike is also a graduate of Leadership Seminole, Class 31. One of his most fun accomplishments is organizing the FSAWWA BBQ competition for the fall conference in Central Florida every year where 14 teams get to compete and serve clients, engineers, and suppliers great food in a fun atmosphere. Mike lives in Oviedo, Florida with his wife and their three children. He is a diehard Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fan and enjoys playing the piano. When he is not at work, you can find him by the pool, grilling out and spending time with family.
