Robert Lightsey joined Wharton-Smith in 2005 and currently serves as General Superintendent, working in our Sanford, Florida headquarters. At just fifteen, Robert started working alongside his father, an entrepreneur in the Water/Wastewater business.
Robert began his Wharton-Smith career as an Intern in August 2005. As a student of the business, he progressed from Field Engineer in 2008 to Superintendent in 2011, Senior Superintendent in 2016, Area Superintendent in 2020, and General Superintendent in 2023.
In his current capacity, Robert leads Field Operations across North and Central Florida, guiding teams from Preconstruction through Project Completion. Additionally, he oversees Equipment/Facilities and Safety, providing leadership and supporting growth.
Robert attended the University of Central Florida and is a certified crane operator. Beyond his technical skills, Robert is passionate about mentoring field staff, refining processes, and enhancing operational efficiencies. For him, it is not just a job—it is a pledge to continuous improvement and empowerment.
Robert resides in Debary with his wife and daughter. He and his daughter are heavily involved in Future Farmers of America, which helps young people learn the skills they need to succeed. Robert enjoys hunting, fishing, and working on cars in his leisure time.
