Sean Stanford was named Director of Operations, for the Carolinas Region Water Operation in February 2016 after managing more than 30 projects in the Southeast Region as a Project Executive/Senior Project Manager. Sean has more than 20 years of experience in engineering and construction. Sean’s responsibilities include the overall performance of all Water Operations in the Carolinas Region. He is involved with projects from preconstruction through final completion and works closely in the office with the entire project staff. He provides leadership and in-depth knowledge of water projects, is passionate about the success of his team and strives to push each employee to reach their full potential. Sean is also responsible for maintaining our positive reputation and a robust business development plan. Throughout his tenure, Sean has established strong working relationships with clients, team members, and community leaders, helping the Wharton-Smith Carolinas Region office achieve the honor of being one of Charlotte Business Journal’s Best Places to Work for two years in a row. Sean joined Wharton-Smith as a Field Engineer in 2003, was promoted to Senior Project Manager in 2013, Project Executive in 2015, and Director of Operations in 2016. Before joining Wharton-Smith, Sean worked for Maverick Construction in Portage, Michigan. Sean also served four years overseas in the U.S. Navy. In addition to his professional experience, Sean graduated with Cum Laude honors from Western Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering. He earned his National Design Build Certification through the DBIA and is a certified General Contractor in North and South Carolina. Sean is passionate about community involvement and strives to support local organizations in Charlotte. He is actively involved in several charitable events and is a member of the North Carolina American Water Works Association. Sean lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife and their spoiled Yorkie named Milly. He is a big Chicago Bears fan and enjoys taking snowboard trips to the mountains whenever his schedule allows.
