In 2004 the historical Bethune Community Center and Senior Center was devastated by Hurricane Charlie leaving the small community without a place to go for fellowship and recreation. With full support of neighborhood members and funding in place from FEMA, grants, and CRA funds, a new state-of-the-art facility emerged. The new community center features a 12,874-square-foot gymnasium with full-size basketball and volleyball courts, adjacent workout room and locker, room, concessions, computer lab, new auditorium, senior center and multi-purpose room.  The project also included a new parking lot, and sanitary, storm and water piping.
