Wharton-Smith is currently providing preconstruction and construction management services to Orange County Public Schools on the new Horizon West Middle School project located in Windermere, Florida. This campus consists of four new multi-story buildings totaling approximately 169,000 s.f. and will also include an outdoor physical education center. A two-story administration and media building, three-story classroom building, as well as a multipurpose building/gymnasium all surround a central courtyard area. Each floor of the classroom building will host one grade level to embrace a learning community for the students with science laboratories located on each level. The athletic facilities include a softball field, tennis and basketball courts, a 400-meter track with inner soccer field, and a gymnasium that doubles as a hurricane shelter. Work is scheduled to be complete in June 2019.
