Brightline Vehicle Maintenance Facility

Wharton-Smith provided Construction Management at Risk services for Brightline’s Orlando Vehicle Maintenance Facility, which supports the trains transporting on the new 170-mile track from Miami to Orlando. This project included the construction of a 136,259 SF vehicle maintenance facility (VMF) for Brightline’s new rolling stock (locomotives and passenger cars) capable of performing light and heavy maintenance requirements. This pre-engineered metal building provides maintenance for the trains, supporting administration space, maintenance pits, a loading dock, parts storage, a machine shop, a drop table, a wheel truer, a train wash, a sanding system, and a fuel depot. Additionally, Wharton-Smith provided improvements to the 35-acre site that consist of rail lines, a parking lot and circulation roadways, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, domestic water, and fire services. The maintenance and attendant staff is based at the VMF located on property leased from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority at the south end of the South Terminal Complex at Orlando International Airport (MCO).
