Hoke County Regional Sewer System – Phase 1B

As part of a phased plan for improvements to the Hoke County Regional Sewer System, Wharton-Smith acted as the general contractor for a new 1.5 million gallon per day sewer plant that uses a sequential batch reactor (SBR) with tertiary filtration and ultraviolet disinfection. The SBR system works by using mechanical and biological methods of separating, removing and disposing of sewage sludge. An aerobic digester uses microorganisms to further break down the sludge after it is mechanically separated from the wastewater. The project is constructed on a greenfield site and also includes a separate operations building, blower and electrical building, influent pump station, and all associated piping.

Hoke County currently provides sewer service to more than 1,400 residential and commercial customers. The new system will easily handle the County’s current needs and provide capacity for additional customers to hook up to in the future.
