Wharton-Smith provided Construction Manager at Risk services for the Medical Examiner’s Office for Volusia County, FL. The 19,892-square-foot facility was built on an estimated 2.94 acres. The medical examiner’s facility is capable of mass disaster response with state-of-the-art autopsy rooms. It features natural lighting for 90% of the occupied space. The facility, which will be open 24/7, improves staff safety, provides community outreach, and expands the county’s current forensics capabilities.
The project scope of work included all major components of construction including sitework, tilt-up wall construction, backup generators, medical equipment, and chilled water systems.
