On December 12, our Wharton-Smith Jacksonville team joined forces with subcontractors, the design team, and the St. Johns County School District board and cabinet members to commemorate a significant milestone in the development of the St. Johns County School District K-8 School PP project; it’s topping out. The event was an exciting blend of camaraderie and celebration, featuring a BBQ feast catered by Willie Jewell’s. Attendees enjoyed receiving commemorative shirts and participating in a raffle that included gift cards, TVs, and essential tools. One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for team members to sign a steel beam that will soon become an integral part of the new K-8 school. This symbolic gesture underscores the teamwork and dedication fueling this project.
Project Manager Gwen Nguyen expressed heartfelt gratitude and pride during the event, stating, “We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and hard work the entire team has put into bringing this school to life. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this milestone—your efforts truly make a difference.”
The SJCSD K-8 school consists of tilt-wall construction of five individual classroom areas, administration space, a gymnasium, cafetorium, library, and classroom space for an Arts program. The new facility will accommodate approximately 1100 students and is designed to provide traditional and non-traditional settings with classrooms able to serve multiple groups depending on need. Construction also includes parking areas as well as ancillary spaces and buildings for a soccer field, walking track, basketball court, and play fields. Construction is expected to be completed in Summer 2025.
