Tom Widener was named Vice President of Operations in July 2023, after serving as the Director of Operations, for the Central & East Coast Florida Commercial Operations. Tom has more than 25 years of construction industry experience.
Tom provides daily leadership while overseeing the Commercial Operations, new work initiatives, and client development for the Central & East Coast of Florida, including Jupiter, Sanford, Brevard, and our newest office in Jacksonville. Tom is also responsible for working with the Director of Operations, Executives, Managers, and Superintendents to identify potential projects, project needs, budgets, and schedules to ensure that all projects are consistent with the Wharton-Smith Way. He provides advice and direction to his team members regarding their professional development, and champions safety on all projects.
Tom has established strong working relationships with clients, team members, and community leaders throughout his time at Wharton-Smith. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Leadership Seminole and is the Chairman of the Board for the Academy of Construction Technologies. Other organizations include the ACE Mentor Program, Associated Builders and Contractors, Leadership Orlando, and Habitat for Humanity.
Tom joined Wharton-Smith in 1997 as a CAAD Technician. He was promoted to Project Engineer in 2000, Assistant Project Manager in 2005, Project Manager in 2006, Senior Project Manager in 2012, and Project Executive in 2017.
In addition to his professional experience, Tom has a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from the University of Central Florida.
