Sanford, FL – On Friday, February 2, Wharton-Smith’s Commercial Division celebrated the great work being done by local subcontractors and team members on the comprehensive renovation/addition project for Orange County Public Schools’ Hillcrest Elementary School. The traditional topping out event marks a significant milestone in the completion of the project.
More than 150 subcontractor and team members gathered for a BBQ lunch catered by Sonny’s BBQ. Senior Superintendent Brad Newton thanked everyone for the great work being done on site adding “you are making us proud and you are making your companies proud.” Custom designed t-shirts were handed out and prizes totaling approximately $2,000 were raffled off to subcontractors on the job. Giveaways such as gift cards, small tools, and a Ryobi drill were donated by subs and vendors.
The $16.4 million project includes demolition, renovations totaling 23,060 s.f., and the addition of a new two-story, 52,000 s.f. building to house classrooms, resource labs, administration, art/music, dining/multi-purpose room, media center and support spaces. A new 130-car parking garage is also being built. Construction is expected to be complete by July 2018.
