Kissimmee, FL – August 17, 2018 – Osceola County Commissioners, project team members and the community gathered together to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. The evening began with a ceremonial ribbon cutting, VIP reception and ended with a much anticipated scrimmage match between two football powerhouses in Central Florida – Osceola High School and Dr. Phillips High School.
“As a sports fan, I am excited about what this complex will mean for Osceola County and for the tourism efforts as well as the local organizations that will use the facility,” said Osceola County Board of County Commissioner Fred Hawkins, Jr. after he thanked the crowd for attending the grand re-opening ceremony. “Kudos to Wharton-Smith and the construction team as well as the design team and 36 subcontractors that worked on this project.”
The Austin-Tindall Sports Complex was originally constructed in 1993 on a 100-acre site and hosts a variety of events for over 30,000 athletes annually including soccer, lacrosse, rugby, football and flag football. Wharton-Smith provided construction management services on the $9.6 million redevelopment project which was completed in a very tight timeline of nine months. The scope of the expansion included five new full-sized multi-purpose fields, a new stadium, restroom/concession facilities, amenities to update the existing park, and a new entrance to the complex that will help the flow of traffic off Boggy Creek Road during events.
“Wharton-Smith has done an outstanding job to get us here,” said Jeff Kuenzli, Sports Facility Manager at Austin-Tindall Sports Complex during the event. “You have done a great job of building us a facility and a vision,” he added.
The newly expanded facility was funded by Osceola County tourist development dollars.
