On Feb. 7, more than 100 team members from various trades along with representatives from the Palm Beach County School Board joined Wharton-Smith’s Southeast Florida Commercial Division to celebrate the topping out of South Tech Academy High School in Boynton Beach. See more pictures.
As workers entered what will soon be the school’s Trade Academy with Automotive, Marine Motorcycle, and Construction Academies, they received t-shirts, raffle tickets for a chance to win more than $3,500 in prizes, and a hearty meal from Mission BBQ.
Willie Southerland, Superintendent, opened the event by saying, “If it wasn’t for you guys, we wouldn’t have this built. You have put a lot of effort into it, you’ve been really safe, and you’ve been doing a good job. You got to keep it up. We really appreciate it.”
The project team is transforming the abandoned Odyssey Middle School into a new home for South Tech Academy High School. The $15 million project includes construction of a 37,000-square-foot vocational building with service bays, storage and instructional spaces, and renovation of the existing 180,000-square-foot facility.
