Harbour Island, Bahamas
Celebrated for its pink sand beaches and small-town feel, Harbour Island has been struck hard by the COVID-19 crisis. Bars, restaurants, and hotels have been closed, putting people out of work. With an unemployment level of over 60 percent, the food supply is at risk for many families.
Wanting to help those most vulnerable in the community, Wharton-Smith partnered with the local project manager, developer, town council, and faith leaders, to create a fund for purchasing and distributing non-perishable foods. David Hayes, Vice President Entertainment-International, sourced the food supplies and coordinated two shipments.
On April 24, food from the first shipment was distributed to 250 families. The second shipment will arrive in the Bahamas on May 6.
“We are grateful to the churches and their volunteers for putting together the much-needed packages and handing them out. We are also grateful for the opportunity to serve the Harbour Island community,” David said.
