Wharton-Smith Construction Group announces the hire of Scott Whelchel
Charlotte, NC – Wharton-Smith Construction Group is pleased to welcome Scott Whelchel to the Wharton-Smith team as Project Executive – Charlotte Commercial Division, reporting to Darin Crafton, Executive Vice President – Commercial.
Mr. Whelchel brings over 25 years of construction project management experience across the Commercial Residential, Industrial, Faith-Based, Healthcare, and Education markets. Prior to Wharton-Smith, his expertise in construction was gained through his time in positions such as Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Director of Construction, and Business Development Manager for firms around the Southeast.
In his new role, Mr. Whelchel will focus on growing Wharton-Smith’s Charlotte presence by providing oversight of Project Management personnel, promoting business development, and leading operations of commercial projects.
Mr. Whelchel has a BS in Construction Engineering and Management from the College of Engineering at NC State University. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, DBIA Professional, and holds certifications in CITCI, OSHA 30, and OSHA 10.

In his free time, Mr. Whelchel serves as a Deacon at Myers Park Presbyterian Church and is an active member of the Charlotte Leadership Forum.
