Wharton-Smith Construction Group announces the hire of Jim Kleen

Orlando, FL – Wharton-Smith Construction Group is pleased to welcome Jim Kleen to the Wharton-Smith team as Project Executive – Central Florida Commercial Division, reporting to Tom Murphy, Vice President of Operations.

In his new role, Mr. Kleen will oversee K-12 projects specifically located in the Orange County and Lake County school districts.

With over 25 years of construction experience in the Florida market, Mr. Kleen has worked on a variety of public and private commercial projects ranging from education, hospitality, automotive, multi-family, and mid-rise office buildings. Prior to joining Wharton-Smith, his experience was gained during his time at firms such as Marker Construction Group, Hedrick Brothers Construction, and Verdex Construction.

“Jim is a great addition to our team, and he is going to be a great asset to our division and our company,” said Tom Widener, Director of Operations – Central Florida Commercial. “He has decades of experience successfully managing and completing multi-million-dollar projects, and we look forward to him continuing the legacy with our current clients and developing new relationships with future clients.”

Mr. Kleen is a LEED Accredited Professional and recently completed Cornell University’s Project Leadership certificate program. He has built numerous awarding winning projects recognized by organizations such as Florida Educational Facilities Planners’ Association, Inc. (FEFPA), Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), and the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Mr. Kleen grew up in South Florida where he was raised by three generations of builders. He actively volunteers with the ACE Mentorship program and Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time, Mr. Kleen can be found shooting sporting clays, traveling, or playing guitar with his daughter.
