On August 19, Wharton-Smith and our project partner BRPH Architects-Engineers, Inc. joined Brevard Public Schools officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Mims Elementary School Cafetorium. See more pictures.
The new stand-alone cafetorium will feature a dining area for students and staff, a performance stage, a full-service kitchen, office space and storage, additional parking, and an enhanced drop-off/pick-up area.
The 13,000-square-foot facility also will serve as Brevard County’s most state-of-the-art enhanced hurricane shelter with a permanent generator and tornado-rated windows. The generator will support the whole building for 24 hours, including kitchen operations and HVAC.
Brevard County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Mullins acknowledged Wharton-Smith and BRPH, saying, “Thank you for your attention to detail and responsiveness to what might seem like some OCD behavior. But, our kids deserve nothing but the very best, and we’re going to work out every last detail. You do that hand in hand with us, and you do it with a smile and with grace, and we appreciate you getting to that same level of excellence.”
