On October 27, Wharton-Smith team members gathered for the Fifth Annual Kickball Tournament at Soldiers Creek Park Complex.
As the players arrived, they were greeted with food hot off the grill and ice-cold drinks. Rick Bundy opened the festivities by sharing the history of the tournament Tom Murphy started five years ago. He called Tom to the front of the crowd as he announced the new name for the annual event — the Tom Murphy Kickball Tournament. Rick also held up the plaque that will hang in the lobby at corporate headquarters with a picture of the tournament winners. After the dedication, all players donned shirts brandishing the new name.
Next, four coed teams – led by David Romero (Green Team), Dominique Arthur (Red Team), Zak Bayless (Blue Team), and Jennifer San Miguel (Orange Team) – showed off their kickball skills during a single-elimination tournament. There were a few hiccups along the way, including a lightning warning that sent everyone off the field until it passed. The Blue team won in the final game between Blue and Green.
