Wharton-Smith Construction was honored to receive an Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction for the Northern Regional Recreation Center at the ABC Carolinas Excellence in Construction Gala. The 83,000-square-foot, $37 million project has been a great success for Wharton-Smith and the residents of Northern Mecklenburg County, with a tremendous response of thousands of families joining the recreation center since opening in the summer of 2022.

Project Executive Scott Whelchel expressed his gratitude for those who worked tirelessly to bring the project to life, saying, “We want to thank our JV partner, architects, engineers, and subcontractors for their steadfast collaboration and teamwork. But most of all, we want to thank our client, Mecklenburg County/Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation, for entrusting our team with the task of building such a beautiful community asset that will impact the health and wellness of residents for decades to come!”
