The University of Central Florida (UCF) recently celebrated alums for Distinguished Engineering and Computer Science Achievements.

The recipients were chosen for their career achievements in industries as diverse as construction and semiconductors.

Among those honored were industry leaders, entrepreneurs, scientists, and a retired NASA astronaut. Our very own President Tim Smith was among the 16 honorees who accepted their awards at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando in front of a sold-out room of faculty, friends, and family.

In accepting the Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering achievement award, Tim said, “If you think about what’s going on at UCF, we’re making history, and you get a chance to live it and watch it with a university of this size. So, UCF, it’s just neat to see it grow; you’ve got to remind yourself sometimes to sit up and pay attention because we are making history. To me, that’s just kind of fun.”

Tim’s family joined the celebration, including Wharton-Smith cofounder George Smith. See more photos and a video interview with Tim Smith.
