On November 29, Wharton-Smith joined Charlotte County Fire and EMS representatives for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training facility. See more pictures and video highlights.
The facility will see firefighting crews from across the country practice skills on a full-size aircraft built to burn. Learn more about the project here.
“This is one of the most exciting and best things that Charlotte County has ever engaged in. This facility will be not only something that will train our folks but something that will train people potentially from across the southeast United States,” said Bill Truex, Chairman of Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners.
“Thank you to Wharton-Smith, Alpine Metals, and Wilder Architecture for building us one of only two such props in the U.S., and thank you to the men and women who serve every day who will train here, who will serve here, and every day show up to protect our community.” Jason Fair, Public Safety Director for Charlotte County Emergency Services, said.
“This project took over two years in planning and construction and an extraordinary team effort to make it happen. We overcame many obstacles along the way, and we’re so glad to celebrate the project’s success,” said Project Executive Caryn Huff.
