Jan. 17, representatives from Seminole County Public Schools,  Wharton-Smith, and Lake Howell High School students (aka Silverhawks) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building on campus. See more pictures and video highlights.

This project includes constructing a new two-story 46,000 square-foot building that will house 21 classrooms, six science labs, and an Early Childhood Lab and Classroom. The building will be powered by a new dedicated electrical service main and conditioned by new air handling units that will be fed chilled water from the existing central energy plant. To make way for the footprint of the new building, rerouting of existing domestic water, stormwater, sanitary, site power, and systems lines are also included.

Jason Wysong, Deputy Superintendent for Seminole County Public Schools, said, “Today, we break ground for a building, but it’s important to remember that this is much more than walls and windows, paint, and roofing. This is where passions will be discovered, where persistence will come together to create new pathways for students, which is what we’re all about. This is a building where students are going to belong, and they’re going to thrive. It is a building that will help them discover their place in the world.”
