On March 3, Wharton-Smith team members joined representatives from Volusia County to celebrate the topping out of the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office in Daytona Beach, Florida. See pictures and video highlights.
More than 100 tradesmen lined up for a tasty lunch and a commemorative t-shirt. Project Manager Chris Lewis and Superintendent Tim Downer congratulated everyone on their hard work detailing the progress made so far. They also thanked all the trades for working well together in close quarters.
Chris also talked about how unique the project is, “I feel like a part of the medical examiner team as I learn from them how and why they do the things they do. Now I can answer questions I never thought I would be able to about things that could keep a person up at night. Even so, it is a super cool project. How many medical examiner buildings will you work on in your career?”
After lunch, Chris, Tim, and the project team raffled off tools, gift cards, safety gear, and more to thank the hard-working crew.
The $18.4 million project will provide the county with a 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility to support day-to-day operations and mass disaster situations.
It is expected to be completed in October 2023.
