Wharton-Smith takes pride in its role as the Construction Manager for the Knightsbridge K-8 Relief School serving the School District of Osceola County. On April 19, 2023, a groundbreaking ceremony was conducted in the presence of community leaders, school district officials, SchenkelShultz Architecture, KPM Franklin, and our project team.
“We all know that the genesis of the Great American future is not happening in the marble buildings in DC but in buildings like these that you guys are erecting,” said Jon Arguello, Osceola County School Board Member. “So, I’m very appreciative of the work you do making places where our students and community members will be loved and put more love back into our country.”
The $59 million project sits on a 58-acre site. It includes a 145,000-square-foot, three-story Kindergarten through Eighth-grade school with a Gymnasium, Kitchen, Cafeteria/Assembly area, Classrooms, Science Labs, Locker Rooms, Administration, Utility, and support spaces. The campus will be on Poinciana Boulevard, north of Old Tampa Highway in Kissimmee, Florida.
This new school, with high-performance building elements, will be made of concrete tilt panels and structural steel and will have a thermoplastic membrane roofing system over lightweight concrete. In addition to the school building, the project includes an outdoor sports field for football, track, and basketball courts, a concession building, and all necessary site construction, including parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways.
