On April 21, the Wharton-Smith team and Seminole County School District representatives gathered to celebrate a significant milestone in their $16 million classroom building replacement project. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement, and nearly 100 skilled tradesmen enjoyed a delicious lunch from Mission BBQ while also getting brand-new t-shirts and clutching raffle tickets. The lucky winners walked away with fantastic prizes like top-of-the-line tools, gift cards, or a NexGrill.
The celebration continued as the Wharton-Smith and Seminole County team members participated in a beam-signing ceremony, leaving their marks on the new structure. “This project is not only about constructing a new two-story building but also about building a stronger community through collaboration and hard work,” said Senior Project Manager Rachel Bouffard.
“We began laying the footers in late December and started on the CMU masonry during the first week of January,” Jason Anderson, Superintendent, said. “And now, less than four months later, we’ve managed to achieve quite a lot in terms of the building’s construction. I am grateful for my team’s dedication and hard work, and I want to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who has contributed to the project’s success.”
This project includes constructing a new two-story 46,000 square-foot building that will house 21 classrooms, six science labs, and an Early Childhood lab and classroom. The building will be powered by a new dedicated electrical service main and conditioned by new air handling units that will be fed chilled water from the existing central energy plant. To make way for the footprint of the new building, rerouting of existing domestic water, stormwater, sanitary, site power, and systems lines are also included.
