Ahfachkee School students, teachers, and staff witnessed a significant milestone in constructing their new elementary school as the final steel beam was lifted during a topping-out ceremony on May 11. This traditional ceremony symbolizes the structural completion of the building and marks a significant step toward its grand opening.
Before the beam reached its position, students, teachers, community members, and tribal dignitaries had the honor of signing it, leaving their mark on this remarkable project. The 49,835-square-foot building is set to be completed by mid-December, with students eagerly anticipating the move to the new facility in January 2024.
During the ceremony, Derek Koger, Seminole Tribe of Florida Tribal Community Development Executive Director, and Tribal Councilwoman Mariann Billie both addressed the construction workers expressing appreciation for their hard work and achieving this milestone on the project. Wharton-Smith Project Executive Paul Fulks also addressed the group saying, “As construction progresses, Wharton-Smith remains dedicated to delivering an exceptional facility that will positively impact the educational journey of Ahfachkee School’s students.”
Featuring 21 state-of-the-art classrooms, a music lab, a computer lab, multipurpose spaces, a wellness center, and a gymnasium complete with a stage, the new building promises to provide an exceptional learning environment for Ahfachkee School students.
Stay tuned for further updates on this remarkable project.
