The Women Build program by Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter empowers women to make a meaningful impact by constructing homes, building communities, and creating brighter futures for local families. Their motto, “We’d rather build it than clean it!” reflects their determination and can-do attitude.

Wharton-Smith donated funds for a new home in Eustis, Florida, benefiting Beth, a hardworking senior citizen. A dedicated group of eight women, known as the Wharton-Smith Women Warriors, joined forces to raise $3,755 through fundraising efforts and volunteered their time on May 19 to help frame the rooms.

Denise Hatton, a Wharton-Smith Warrior and Operations Coordinator, shared her admiration for Beth, who left a lasting impression on her. Despite being in her 70s, Beth works part-time at Chick-fil-A and actively participated in the build, even providing breakfast sandwiches to the team. Denise described Beth as a remarkable woman and a source of inspiration.

Kudos to the Wharton-Smith Warriors for a job well done. Gratitude is also extended to Gail and Judy from Zonta International, who kindly provided lunch trays from Publix. Lastly, thanks to Wharton-Smith Project Executive Larry Sease for supporting this program and providing Italian ice, juice, and drinks!

As part of the tradition followed by the faith-based organization, every new Habitat homeowner receives a symbolic brass skeleton key and a Bible. The Wharton-Smith team had the honor of signing the flyleaf of the Bible and offering their heartfelt congratulations and wishes for a bright future.
