On December 12, officials from Lake County Schools, the City of Minneola, Wharton-Smith, GSB Construction, Zyscovich, BBM, Matern, Kilma Weeks, and members of the public celebrated the groundbreaking of a new K-8 relief school. See photos and video from the event.
The yet-to-be-named school will be built to serve around 1,200 students, helping to alleviate overcrowding at nearby schools and to accommodate the increasing population in Minneola. This will be Wharton-Smith’s third K-8 school built in partnership with Lake County Schools.
“This ceremony symbolizes not just the physical aspect of construction, but it also lays the groundwork for the future that inspires,” said Project Executive Jim Kleen. “We’re extremely grateful to partner with Lake County Schools once again, and we look forward to another successful project.”
About the project:
The proposed 143,372 SF 3-story main classroom building will house all the administrative offices, media center, engineering labs, science labs, multi-purpose dining room, kitchen, stage area, classrooms, collaborative spaces, culinary, music, and several other supportive spaces needed for a school campus. The standalone 17,400 SF gymnasium building will include a full basketball court, telescoping bleachers, and associated locker room spaces.
The school is projected to be completed Summer 2025.
