On February 26, representatives from the Cities of Fort Myers and Cape Coral joined Wharton-Smith, CDM Smith, and more to celebrate the South Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant Water Reclamation Facility Expansion ribbon cutting. See photos.

Wharton-Smith provided Construction Management at Risk services for the project, including the installation of a new electrical building with standby generator power, chlorine contact basins, a filter feed pump station, disk filters, high-level disinfection structures, a high-service pump station, and a two-mile reclaimed water transmission main.

“This project started way back in 2011,” said Jason Sciandra, Utilities Engineer for the City of Fort Myers. “I want to thank Wharton-Smith for their tireless work to make this a reality.”

The Caloosahatchee Connect project, which enables the City of Cape Coral to receive reclaimed water from the City of Fort Myers via a pipeline, benefits both cities by reducing discharges to the Caloosahatchee River while providing more reclaimed water to Cape Coral. This wouldn’t be possible without the expansion to the Fort Myers facility.

“I wanted to share my appreciation to the South Reclaim Team and acknowledge their tremendous efforts to complete such a challenging project,” Vice President of Business Development Todd O’Donnell said. “The team faced many supply chain and other lingering issues from the pandemic but remained focused on working through the issues and never wavering to complete another quality project for the City of Fort Myers. Looking forward to seeing the next one.”

Congratulations to the entire Wharton-Smith team!
