On April 25, residents of South Walton County, along with Wharton-Smith, DAG Architects, O’Connell Engineering, and the South Walton County Mosquito Control District (SWCMCD), celebrated the groundbreaking of the SWCMCD’s much-needed new headquarters.
At 58 years old, the current headquarters has been outgrown by 25 full-time employees. Storms and flooding throughout the years have also impacted it. The brand-new facility will feature a 10,000 SF office with accompanying lab space situated on approximately ten acres with room to grow in the future. The new headquarters will be geared specifically towards the county’s entomologists and techs, which are custom-fit for the scientific work needed to control mosquitos in South Walton County.
“We are very excited to embark on this adventure with South Walton Mosquito Control District and what this new headquarters and site improvements will bring to the efficiency of their operations,” said Project Executive Jason Albano. “South Walton County is growing very quickly and needs organizations like the MCD to help promote quality of living and health for generations to come. Maintaining operational efficiency for the district in this phased construction schedule will be of utmost importance and we are thrilled for the opportunity.”
The $8 million headquarters is expected to be completed in May 2025.
