On May 11, over 100 residents from the Village of Wellington, joined by the village council, staff, and dignitaries, celebrated the groundbreaking of their brand-new Aquatics Facility. Wharton-Smith is serving as the Construction Manager and OLC Architects has completed the design of this innovative project. See photos.
The $28 million center will include a 13,000-square-foot building complete with locker rooms, a multipurpose room, a concession stand, an Olympic-sized pool, a recreational pool with a play structure, and a NinjaCross obstacle course, the first of its kind in Palm Beach County. The 64-meter competitive pool will have ten lanes, a dive well, and a moveable bulkhead that can be used to reconfigure the pool for different events. The center will be able to host multiple events at once, including diving, racing, water polo, and synchronized swimming.
During the ceremony, Area Manager Tom Jakubisin closed the speakers with, “Wharton-Smith is honored to be here. We have completed a dozen or so projects with the Village of Wellington, all very successful, and we are looking forward to the success of this project. When this facility is open with all the events and competitions, you will realize your community has given you something really strong that other communities don’t get.”
The project is expected to be completed in fall 2025.
