On July 30, Wharton-Smith joined Brevard Public Schools, Schenkel Shultz, members of the Viera community, and students and staff of the newly built Viera Middle School to officially cut the ribbon and open the school before the new school year began. See photos.
Viera Middle School is the first middle school to be built in Brevard County in over 30 years. The $50 million project consisted of a new 135,000 SF school with three buildings: administration, classroom, and cafetorium. The campus also includes pickleball/basketball courts, a track, a soccer field, and the signature Viera golf cart loop. Built to house up to 900 students, the new school is opening with nearly 700 seventh and eighth-grade Viera Owls, who started school on August 12.
School Board member Matt Susin thanked Wharton-Smith for the incredible job performed at the school, emphasizing the ordering of transformers and other equipment before the final inking of the contract, allowing the school to open on time. “What an incredible contracting group and an incredible office,” said Matt. “I want to say thank you to Wharton-Smith for everything you guys did. You guys are amazing.”
“Wharton-Smith is honored to have been a part of bringing this middle school campus to the fast-growing Viera community,” said Area Manager Johnathan Wilkes. “A special thanks to everyone from the project team who worked tirelessly to make it all happen. We are very proud to be one of Brevard Public Schools’ trusted construction partners of choice.”
